1688 Landed Cost Calculator

The unit price on 1688 is the least of what you pay. This tool adds the layers a purchase decision actually needs — domestic China freight, your real exchange rate, the sea or air freight allocation, and estimated duty — and returns one number: landed cost per unit.

⚡ Direct Answer

• Product per unit = (unit price × qty + domestic freight) ÷ FX rate ÷ qty

• Freight per unit = freight total ÷ qty

• Duty per unit = duty base × rate (base = product value by default; + freight for CIF)

• Landed unit cost = product + freight + duty

Estimates for planning; HS codes, valuation and surcharges are confirmed on a dated quote per shipment.

Formula & Methodology

Duty baseproduct per unit (FOB) [+ freight per unit if CIF]US entries generally work from an FOB-style customs value; EU and UK entries from CIF. The checkbox switches convention — your broker confirms the filing.
Estimated duty per unitduty base × HS rate ÷ 100Enter the rate for your confirmed HS code from the destination tariff schedule. FTA certificates (where valid) can reduce it to zero — verify per product.
Landed unit costproduct + freight + dutyUpstream supply cost to destination port of entry. Excludes destination-side delivery, marketplace fees and taxes on sales — see FAQ.

Output figures are indicative estimates, not quotations. Exchange rates move, surcharges exist, and customs valuation is ultimately the authority of the destination border — which is why every real number in our workflow comes from a dated, itemized quote confirmed per shipment.

Landed Cost FAQ

Why does the calculator exclude international freight from the duty base by default?

At a US entry, duty is generally computed on the price actually paid or payable for the goods — an FOB-style customs value — with properly itemized international freight and insurance kept out of that base. The EU and UK, by contrast, generally work from a CIF base that adds cost, insurance and freight together before duty. The checkbox switches between the two conventions; which one applies to you is set by your destination and your customs broker's filing.

What duty rate should I enter?

The rate for your specific HS code in the destination tariff schedule — not a generic guess. Classifications differ by product material and function, and misclassified rates are a compliance risk, not a planning shortcut. Your forwarder or broker can confirm the code before you place the order; rates shown in the tool are whatever you enter, flagged as estimates.

Does landed unit cost equal my FBA breakeven?

No — it is the upstream half. Landed cost covers getting one unit to your destination port of entry (plus duty). It does not include destination-side last-mile or drayage, marketplace fulfillment fees, storage, returns, or ad spend. Use it as the supply-side input when modeling channel economics — our FBA vs FBM piece covers the downstream half.

How accurate is the estimate?

It is arithmetic, not prophecy: the formula is exact for the numbers you enter. Accuracy therefore comes from your inputs — a real freight quote for the freight field, a confirmed HS rate for the duty field, and the exchange rate your payment provider actually gives you rather than the mid-market one you see on news sites.
